Well, you’ll need to manually edit some files to accomplish
\nyour scope, if you feel accustomed in doing so, just fire up
\nyour favourite text editor and let’s go<\/p>\n
As a starting note I’ll the files you’ll need to edit\/create
\nare located into the %SYSTEMROOT%\\System32\\dns\\etc
\nfolder (e.g. winnt\\system32\\dns\\etc)
\nso whenever I’ll write create\/edit a file, I assume it will
\nbe in that folder, now..<\/p>\n

Create a new file and name it “liquinas.db”, add the
\nfollowing text to it (keep in mind that the below config
\nis *not* complete and it’s only a guideline)<\/p>\n

replace the “1.2.3.4” address above with the real
\nhost address(es) you have, then save the file
\n(in “etc” as seen above), now open the file
\n“local.conf” and add the following text to its
\nbottom (after the last blank line)<\/p>\n
zone “liquinas.net” {

\nfile “liquinas.db”;
\n};<\/p>\n
as I previously wrote the above is only a minimal sample,
\nyou may need to add more options to better suit your
\nneeds, in any case the above should work; now save the
\nfile and open “named.conf” this is the master configuration
\nfile, here we’ll need to change the config so that BIND-PE
\nwill answer to queries made from the internet for all the
\ndomains it handles directly, to do so locate the line which
\nreads <\/p>\n
listen-on port 53 { ….some IPs here… };<\/p>\n
and change it so that it will be<\/p>\n
listen-on port 53 { any; };<\/p>\n
this tells BIND-PE to listen on port 53 on all the IPs
\navailable on your machine, this will allow it to receive
\nqueries from the internet, now we’ll need to allow it to
\n*answer* to such queries, so locate the line which reads<\/p>\n
allow-query { “private”; };<\/p>\n
and add a “\/\/” (comment sign) in front of it
\nso that it will look like<\/p>\n
\/\/ allow-query { “private”; };<\/p>\n
this will remove the “private-only” query “lock”
\nand allow internet hosts to query the local BIND-PE
\nand get an answer (although since another
\noption -namely the allow-recursion- is still in place,
\nit will only answer to queries directed to local zones
\nbut won’t recurse for internet clients) at this point
\nsave this file too.<\/p>\n
Now stop\/start the BIND service and check if it’s
\nrunning as needed, if all’s ok just try to run nslookup
\nand query the local DNS for some infos about your
\ndomain (e.g. the www address or the like), if it answers
\nwith correct data you’ll be up and running.<\/p>\n
As a note, the zone file (the first we’ve seen)
\nwould need some more records to be ok, namely
\ntwo MX and NS records instead of a single one and
\nsome RP\/MB\/TXT records, but this would take us too far,
\nto complete your zone setup I suggest you to look at
\nthe many examples you can find on the ‘net, in any
\ncase the above config should work and be ok as a
\nstarting point (hopefully I didn’t make mistakes but
\nin any case the people on the NG will correct me I think \ud83d\ude42
\n– or add any other info which I forgot to include)<\/p>\n
