(reposted info)<\/p>\n<p>Well, you&#8217;ll need to manually edit some files to accomplish<br \/>\nyour scope, if you feel accustomed in doing so, just fire up<br \/>\nyour favourite text editor and let&#8217;s go<\/p>\n<p>As a starting note I&#8217;ll the files you&#8217;ll need to edit\/create<br \/>\nare located into the %SYSTEMROOT%\\System32\\dns\\etc<br \/>\nfolder (e.g. winnt\\system32\\dns\\etc)<br \/>\nso whenever I&#8217;ll write create\/edit a file, I assume it will<br \/>\nbe in that folder, now..<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Create a new file and name it &#8220;liquinas.db&#8221;, add the<br \/>\nfollowing text to it (keep in mind that the below config<br \/>\nis *not* complete and it&#8217;s only a guideline)<\/p>\n<p>liquinas.net. 3600 IN SOA ns1.liquinas.net. admin.liquinas.net. (<br \/>\n2003011300 ; serial (yyyymmddXX)<br \/>\n3600 ; refresh (1 hour)<br \/>\n600 ; retry (10 minutes)<br \/>\n86400 ; expire (1 day)<br \/>\n3600 ; minimum (1 hour)<br \/>\n)<\/p>\n<p>; base infos<br \/>\nliquinas.net. 3600 IN NS ns1.liquinas.net.<br \/>\nliquinas.net 3600 IN MX 10 mx1.liquinas.net.<\/p>\n<p>; A records<br \/>\nliquinas\/net. 3600 IN A 1.2.3.4<br \/>\nns1.liquinas.net. 3600 IN A 1.2.3.4<br \/>\nmx1.liquinas.net. 3600 IN A 1.2.3.4<\/p>\n<p>; Aliases<br \/>\nwww.liquinas.net. 3600 IN CNAME liquinas.net.<br \/>\nftp.liquinas.net. 3600 IN CNAME liquinas.net.<\/p>\n<p>replace the &#8220;1.2.3.4&#8221; address above with the real<br \/>\nhost address(es) you have, then save the file<br \/>\n(in &#8220;etc&#8221; as seen above), now open the file<br \/>\n&#8220;local.conf&#8221; and add the following text to its<br \/>\nbottom (after the last blank line)<\/p>\n<p>zone &#8220;liquinas.net&#8221; {<br \/>\ntype master;<br \/>\nfile &#8220;liquinas.db&#8221;;<br \/>\n};<\/p>\n<p>as I previously wrote the above is only a minimal sample,<br \/>\nyou may need to add more options to better suit your<br \/>\nneeds, in any case the above should work; now save the<br \/>\nfile and open &#8220;named.conf&#8221; this is the master configuration<br \/>\nfile, here we&#8217;ll need to change the config so that BIND-PE<br \/>\nwill answer to queries made from the internet for all the<br \/>\ndomains it handles directly, to do so locate the line which<br \/>\nreads <\/p>\n<p>listen-on port 53 { &#8230;.some IPs here&#8230; };<\/p>\n<p>and change it so that it will be<\/p>\n<p>listen-on port 53 { any; };<\/p>\n<p>this tells BIND-PE to listen on port 53 on all the IPs<br \/>\navailable on your machine, this will allow it to receive<br \/>\nqueries from the internet, now we&#8217;ll need to allow it to<br \/>\n*answer* to such queries, so locate the line which reads<\/p>\n<p>allow-query { &#8220;private&#8221;; };<\/p>\n<p>and add a &#8220;\/\/&#8221; (comment sign) in front of it<br \/>\nso that it will look like<\/p>\n<p>\/\/ allow-query { &#8220;private&#8221;; };<\/p>\n<p>this will remove the &#8220;private-only&#8221; query &#8220;lock&#8221;<br \/>\nand allow internet hosts to query the local BIND-PE<br \/>\nand get an answer (although since another<br \/>\noption -namely the allow-recursion- is still in place,<br \/>\nit will only answer to queries directed to local zones<br \/>\nbut won&#8217;t recurse for internet clients) at this point<br \/>\nsave this file too.<\/p>\n<p>Now stop\/start the BIND service and check if it&#8217;s<br \/>\nrunning as needed, if all&#8217;s ok just try to run nslookup<br \/>\nand query the local DNS for some infos about your<br \/>\ndomain (e.g. the www address or the like), if it answers<br \/>\nwith correct data you&#8217;ll be up and running.<\/p>\n<p>As a note, the zone file (the first we&#8217;ve seen)<br \/>\nwould need some more records to be ok, namely<br \/>\ntwo MX and NS records instead of a single one and<br \/>\nsome RP\/MB\/TXT records, but this would take us too far,<br \/>\nto complete your zone setup I suggest you to look at<br \/>\nthe many examples you can find on the &#8216;net, in any<br \/>\ncase the above config should work and be ok as a<br \/>\nstarting point (hopefully I didn&#8217;t make mistakes but<br \/>\nin any case the people on the NG will correct me I think \ud83d\ude42<br \/>\n&#8211; or add any other info which I forgot to include)<\/p>\n<p>NB..download this zip (is a bind9 pdf inside)<br \/>\nhttp:\/\/ntcanuck.com\/DL\/Bv9ARM.zip<\/p>\n<p>NT Canuck <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>something along these lines may help.
