Therefore, I reccomend the following changes to be made to Vista immediatly upon install or opening of new computer.
Local Security Policy Editor / Local Policies / Security Options /
User Account Control : Admin Approcal Mode for the Built-in Administrator… = Disabled
User Account Control : Behavior of the elevation promt for admin in admin… = Elevate w/o prompting
User Account Control : Detect application installaions and promt for ele… = Enabled
User Account Control : Only elevate UIAccess applications that are installed… = disabled
User Account Control : Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode = Enabled
User Account Control : Switch to secure desctop when promting for elevation = Disabled
There are a few more changes you might want to make, but these are the immediatly important ones to be setup in my current 30 minutes of exposure to Windows Vista. So far my biggest complaint has been the Admin UI layout. It took me 5 minutes just to find out how to get to the Connection Management screen I’m use to in all old windows (where you actualy see and can modify network connections). However I think once I get use to it I will really like it.
I might blog some more on my first experiences with Vista and CF/Apache later today, but my internet connection is down for at least the rest of the day. I’m having to use my girlfriends laptop and Verizon card to get internet right now and I swear this thing is slower than dial-up.
