Note: Though you can obtain either a Win32 or x64 version of this utility, the x64 version
would be appropriate for Windows 2008 and SBS 2008 use.
NtBackupRestore_Win64.msi
Operating systems:
• Microsoft Windows Vista (64-bit)
• Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (64-bit)
• Small Business Server 2008
Download and install the NtBackupRestore_Win64.msi as you would any typical
application.
In addition to installing this utility, you must also enable Removable Storage Manager. To do
this:
1. From the top of the Start Menu choose Server Manager.
2. From the Server Manager console, expand Features.
3. In the Features pane, locate the Features Summary section.
4. From the top of this section, choose Add Features.
5. Enable the Removable Storage Manager option, apply and close the console.
This utility is not used at this point in the project construction, the task is only to install it at
this time as a preparation for later tasks to come.
Install Instructions
Before you install and run Windows NT Backup – Restore Utility, you need to turn on or install the Removable Storage Management feature.
•Note: An NTSMAPI.dll error may occur if Removable Storage Management is not enabled.
To turn on Removable Storage Management in Windows Vista
1.Click the Start button, click Control Panel, click Programs, and then click Turn Windows Features on or off. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
2.Select the check box next to Removable Storage Management to turn the feature on, and then click OK.
To install Removable Storage Management on Windows Server 2008
1.Click Control Panel and then click Administrative Tools.
2.Open Server Manager, navigate to the Features Summary section, and click Add features.
3.Select the check box next to Removable Storage Manager, click Next, and then click Install.
To install Windows NT Backup – Restore Utility
1.Click the Download button next to a file listed below.
2.To start the installation immediately, click Run.

To copy the download to your computer for installation at a later time, click Save.
To start Windows NT Backup – Restore Utility
1.Click the Start button, click Programs, click Windows NT Backup Restore – Utility, and then click Ntbackup-RestoreUtility.
